Climbing mountains in memory

A trekking team from RAF Cosford has climbed Mount Kilimanjaro the hard way to raise money for the RAF Benevolent Fund.

The intrepid duo astride Kilimanjaro

Flight Lieutenant Kirk Evans, a physical education officer, and Sergeant Lesley Morgan, a medic, have just climbed Mount Kilimanjaro.

Lesley has personal experience of the amazing work of the RAF Benevolent Fund. We supported her family after the death of her twin sister Rebecca, also an RAF medic, who died from leukemia in 2003. Besides Lesley, Rebecca left behind a husband and a daughter.

The team climbed the Machame route, which is used by professional and experienced climbers despite being advised that the Marangu route would be safer. Kirk had this to say:

“We felt that taking the easier route wouldn’t be enough to respect the cause of the fund and the memory of Lesley’s sister... we aim to raise as much as we possibly can taking the harder route.”

Well done!

You can still sponsor Kirk and Lesley on their Justgiving page.
